My boys are easily distracted at times. Like the dogs in the movie "Up" that suddenly jerk their heads to the side and freeze when they hear a rustle, thinking they see a squirrel, I have seen my sweet boys get off track even mid-sentence. Just yesterday I found myself frustrated with this, but I quickly realized they get it honest-- straight from mama!
Though I am often a "two-feet in" type of person, I can't do anything half way...even to the detriment of something else! Yet in a moment I can be pulled away like those dogs in "Up" by the rustle of something in my mind. A simple "what if" or a distraction of the flesh or of the enemy pulls my heart off course all too quickly.
Today as I pondered Psalm 119 the truth of verse 23 was like a fresh call to focus. "Even princes sit and speak against me, but I will meditate on Your decrees."
What am I meditating on? Whether my enemy is speaking against me or outward circumstances are attempting to distract me with anxiety and worry, if I am meditating on the Word of Truth I will be able to stay the course.
The psalmist goes on to say "though the wicked hide along the way to kill me, I will quietly keep my mind on Your laws" in verse 95. Do you see the lies hiding along the road, hunched down waiting to spring on you? Quietly keeping our minds on His Truth will keep our focus on the path He's called us to. With quiet focus and meditation we will not be quick to jerk to the side at every distraction and shout "Squirrel!"
Oh, Lord, let it be that my easily distracted mind would stay steadfast on You today.

Love it! Had just taught a lesson in ladies class on "squirrels and birds" about eating (focusing on) God's Word daily. Not scampering around like a squirrel in the world. Long story. Love it.
oh friend! I am so like those dogs! Thank you for reminding me of the verse that I have up by my kitchen sink (...it would be good for me to read it once in a while!) - Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!" Hugs, H
