A Fresh Reminder

When I first turned my Bible to Matthew chapter 11, I was excited to get a word about those sweet verses at the end of the chapter...you know tired mamas know the one: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest."

Just reading those words causes me to sigh with peacefulness. But no. That is not the Word the Lord had for me today. As I began to read it was as if a holy highlighter stroked across the page over these words:
"After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee."

That's it, Lord? I asked as I looked up to heaven. It's only verse ONE!
I glanced back at the page. That was it. The Lord said to my heart, AFTER Jesus instructed those 12 disciples who were His closest calling, THEN He went on and taught and preached elsewhere.

This was not a new word for me from the Lord, but certainly a fresh reminder in my current season of homeschooling two future men for Him.

My boys are eleven and eight. Old enough to do many things for themselves and be fairly independent. But young enough to desperately need a mother who prays constantly for them and who disciples them diligently towards the Lord and who models God-pleasing (not people-pleasing) priorities.

My passion is Jesus and my favorite way to express my passion is to write and teach women God's Word and the power it holds for their lives. But my current "disciples" are two precious boys who have been entrusted to me by the Lord for the purpose of growing them in the fear and admonition of the Lord. If I fail that (NOT if they don't chose to follow the Lord--that is between each boy and Jesus), but if I fail to train them up in the Lord, then I have missed my current assignment. My calling is to intimately know Jesus and make Him known..my task is to start at home.

I am blessed by every opportunity when I get to "go on from there and teach" women in various churches and groups of the truths of God's word. But I (and those who are serving outside our homes) must remember the first call is to instruct those little disciples while they are still eager to learn of the things of the Lord. AFTER that, we go on from there to teach and preach in various towns.

I have to remember this as well, Mariel. I still have two young ones under my roof. In addition, we serve a small congregation with few in attendance on Sunday morning. Sometimes, I get a bit lost in it all, wondering if what we're doing really makes a difference. I teach the kids' SS class, and most days, it's just them. I consider them part of my 12. God is bringing peace to my heart along these lines.

Praying for you this day as you seek to live out the call of Christ on your life.

Such a great word, Mariel. One He has to remind me of, as well. :)

Blessings to you as you sow into those precious lives!

Love to you!
